Premiere of Would You Love Me If I Was A Worm?

Would You Still Love Me If I Was A Worm? (WYSLMIIWAW?) is a 14-minute multimedia dance performance that feels like a movie.

This work features a love story that is authentic, whimsical, and unconventional, told through a duet of manipulated phrases and improvisation structures. It is accompanied by a projected video, which takes inspiration from indie romance films, and a sound score that combines movie soundtracks with love songs of the past and present. WYSLMIIWAW? is choreographed by Christina McKinney in collaboration with the performers, Julia Phu and Marissa Schroeder, as a part of NC Dance Festival’s 24-25 Artist-in-Residence program.

Teaching “Exploring Movement Through Media”

This class will examine dance improvisation through multimedia tools—such as filmmaking techniques and live stream technology—where movers will interact with each other, the camera, and the screen. Through the usage of ensemble improvisation exercises, individual exploration, and multiple lenses, we will traverse the realm of dance film to craft alternate perspectives of improvisational dance. *Please bring a cell phone or portable device that has a camera and can connect to a web browser.
