Teaching Statement

As a movement educator, my goal is for students to develop critical thinking skills and curiosities about dance, while expanding an awareness of their own body and how it moves. I guide students to move their individual bodies safely by providing movement modifications and material that is adaptable to each person’s abilities. I encourage students to ask questions, analyze intention, and think beyond the technical details in order to perform movement and connect to it at a personal level. My motive as a dance educator is to ignite the passion for movement in students, and inspire them to become artists who can engage with the world around them.

Workshop Description

Exploring Movement Through Media
This class will examine movement through multimedia tools—such as filmmaking techniques, photography basics, and live stream technology—where movers will interact with each other, the camera, and the screen. Through the usage of improvisation exercises, simple phrases, individual exploration, and multiple lenses, we will traverse the realm of dance film and photography to craft alternate perspectives of dance. *Please bring a cell phone or portable device that has a camera and can connect to a web browser.
